Satoyama Jujo is a unique mountain boutique hotel just west of Minamiuonuma, Japan. The historic hotel is transformed meticulously from a 150-year-old Japanese hardwood house. While the building has been refurbished, many of its original structures and elements have been preserved. It now serves as the reception hall with exposed wooden beams and traditional floors.
Satoyama Jujo offers 15 guest rooms and suites in the annex, an extension of the original house. They strike a beautiful balance between modern and traditional Japanese design, featuring a classic white and wooden palette alongside different designer and vintage furniture. Some rooms also come with traditional tatami mats and a private outdoor wooden bathtub.
The highlight of Satoyama Jujo is none other than its outdoor onsen with uninterrupted views of Mt. Makihata and the adjacent mountain ranges. For meals and drinks, Sanaburi is an organic restaurant showcasing seasonal mountain vegetables with traditional local preservation methods.
